BC government pushes clearcutting but in Parks? – Jens Wieting, Sierra Club of BC
Ontario contracts for renewable power for 350,000 homes. It’s cheapest! – Jack Gibbons, Ontario Clean Air Alliance.

Blewett resident Lyne Chartier has been a keen “Waste Less” activist in the Nelson area for years. During Earth Month in Nelson this year she is launching a new Waste Less Nelson Map with tips on how to cut garbage.
Rumours are flying that the BC government, which has been promising more and more access to clearcutting forests, is considering allowing logging in Provincial Parks. Sierra Club of BC’s Jens Wieting gives us an update on the province’s plans on old growth and our ecosystem.
The Ontario provincial government has been discouraging transition to renewable energy for years and has been promoting gas burning electricity and nuclear power. But last week the province’s electricity manager announced big new solar and wind projects. Jack Gibbons, from the Ontario Clean Air Alliance tells us more.

Workshop on Community connection in the age of disinformation
Learn how disinformation is impeding our ability to act on crucial issues like climate change, and what we can do about it on systemic and interpersonal levels. Disinformation — false information intended to mislead – is on the rise in our largely unregulated and profit-driven social media ecosystems.
You’ll leave this workshop with tools for having compassionate conversations in ways that connect us to our values, depolarize, and build community connection.
Workshop facilitated by Natasha Edmunds, conflict resolution consultant, and Aaron Korbacher, local educator.
Hosted by Kootenay Co-op Grocery Store and West Kootenay Climate Hub, as part of Nelson and Area Earth Days.
