Harvest sharing of local fruit – Elena Harder, Nelson Village Harvest

LOCAL FORAGE: LIONS MANE MUSHROOM.
Shauna Fidler from Slocan is with the Kootenay Food Council and the Columbia Basin Food and Buyer Expo. She tells us about local efforts to get more local food on to local plates in the Kootenays.

Radka Kolacny is a Winlaw farmer who talks about some of the barriers small local producers have to selling their small scale food and meat locally. Regulations designed for safety for mass produced food can cripple local farmers.
Elena Harder had a lot of fun helping Nelson area folks harvesting the abundance of pears, plums, and many fruits. She gave away boxes of fruit and tells us how empowering it is to help protect local bears with a great reward of fresh local fruit.
