There was a powerful rally for preserving BC forests in Nelson November 18. Nearly 1,000 people came out and cheered loudly for some extraordinary, prominent speakers that local Joe Karthein had brought together to put pressure on the government to protect old growth and forests. Talks at the rally from: David Suzuki, from the author of the Mother Tree Suzanne Simard, from famous BC forester Herb Hammond, from local forest ecologist Rachel Holt, and from local watershed protector Ramona Faust.
It was called the Broken Promises rally because although the BC NDP government has promised to protect old growth forests and promised to protect biodiversity, that hasn’t really happened in the forests.
