Solita Work from the West Kootenay Cycling Coalition is co-hosts again and talks with local planner Trish Denel about their ride on Highway 3A from Castlegar to Nelson. The Coalition, along with the RDCK is exploring a dedicated bike/hike trail between the two cities. Local cyclist Andrew Murray has been talking with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure folks about the widening of the Nelson to Balfour highway stretch this summer. Andrew reports wider, safer shoulders along the route are on the way.

Mir Centre for Peace online Peace Cafe with local educator Aaron Korbacher for a peace café: Disrupting Disinformation: How the Moral Panic around Drag Story Time Is Manufactured—and What We Can Do About It. The presentation will explore the origins of the recent surge in online disinformation related to trans and queer people. Then participate in a discussion of what we can do to disrupt it.

Natasha Edmunds, of Neighbours United, will share the approach known as deep canvassing—a strategy to overcome fear and bridge divides by listening deeply, connecting with empathy and promoting learning in non-judgmental ways.

Neighbours United BIPOC Clean Energy Organizer Workshop – Apply before May 31

This in-person organizer training program is open to people who identify as part of the Indigenous, Black and People of Colour Communities in the West Kootenays. It will take place in the Neighbours United Office in Downtown Castlegar on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25 from 9am-5pm. Run by BIPOC organizers for BIPOC organizers.5 spots are eligible for a $500 scholarship. Another $500 is available for participants who complete this workshop to start organizing your community’s priorities in the clean energy transition in your town.
